@ArmsControlWonk The text seems to imply it is just physical. But keep in mind the LIFE people didn't really know much how the bombs worked.

@wellerstein You're right-absent a statement the ABMs were nuclear-armed, a lay reader would presume the collision triggered the bomb. -
@ArmsControlWonk And if you imagine the ICBMs are basically Little Boys on rockets, which is all LIFE'd know in 1945. Not as hard to trigger
