Sen. Cotton just asserted Gen. Hyten could not have committed the sexual assaults of which he has been accused because his job and role in the nuclear chain of command requires him to be immediately available 24/7 to conference with the president in the event of a nuclear attack.

all that means in practice is that there has to be a guy with a bag who knows where he is

Right. Gen. Hyten subsequently said, in response to questions from Sen. Hawley (R-MO), that his security detail always knows where he is (which is not the same as always being with him) and that when he travels, a team handling his secure communications stays in an adjacent room.

When he gave a talk earlier this year at the Hoover Institution, there were two plainclothes guys with him. One was a big burly dude who looked like he ate linebackers for lunch. The other was a little dude who stood by the door and carried what looked like a fancy cell phone.pic.twitter.com/yQMCQiXM4p

You can see little dude by the doorway in the back, there. Burly dude was out of frame, eyeballing everyone in the room on a regular circuit, Secret Service style. He also had two or three military people in uniform who looked like they were in charge of driving him around.

There is an organization that shields National Command Authority links. And it's not the PFPA. Please tell me you know this?

Should be kinda obvious from the photo, but I was at said academic workshop. His security guys were pretty obvious.

(And, in general: if an assistant professor of history in Hoboken knows this stuff — I think we can assume the Russians, Chinese, and whomever know it, too. Crown jewels, these ain't.)
