oh that's promising. that's the closest-looking bomb fin I've seen so far.
Seriously - the front of the weapon has an explosive charge to destroy it in case of non detonation? That would spread fissile material over a huge area. The first 'dirty bomb'. Again a concept new to me.
These are pretty much totally speculative and should not be read into much. :-) They're what someone who kinda understands the principles imagines would be involved, with a lot of "extra" stuff added to make it seem more informed than it is.
I think they resemble the first air bombs dropped on London by WW1 Zeppelins
I don't see photos of those, but they do have a zeppelin-like quality to them in general
Dont know about the fins. The left hand one is a gun assembly like Little Boy. But is it supposed to be a boosted weapon with the 'deuterium wax' undergoing fusion?
It's not boosted, it's a confusion about whether the reaction needs to be moderated or not. (It doesn't, but a lot of the early "weapon designs" images from the 1940s didn't realize that.)
Aha! Again they drew on known disclosures - such as how a reactor works. A-weapons using fast neutrons of course.
Fins a bit like these firebombs without the ring? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Luftwaffe_1kg_Incendiary_Bomb.jpg …
I've seen some discussion (in Rhodes, I think) about the need for proper fins on the Fat Man bomb, or it couldn't be properly aimed at the intended ground zero. This was determined during the practice drops of the 509th (I think) bomber group. So: it's plausible.
Inspired by V1s/V2s?
seems like a bit of an affectation based on things like this https://www.omahas.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/msc64-mk15-mod4-practice-bombs-6.png …
The right hand 'Russian' bomb is a gun type operated by compressed air? Very strange, and I have never read about anything like it. I dont think compressed air would get the same velocity as a naval gun barrel (as used in Little Boy).
The second picture is weird too - a gun type bomb being used as the sparkplug in an H-weapon. Gun types were never continued beyond the Mk1. I guess they had to form a concept out of known disclosed info at the time.
Actually there were multiple gun assembly (GA) systems past the Mark I. The Mark 8, W33 and T4 ADM are all alleged to be such, among others. Several groups have considered using GA as the fission stage of a TN device, unknown if any have been successful.
This is inference based on body of a V-2 modified with internals of the new weapon of terror that few could scarcely imagine.
