The Quietist Car?

The "people theoretically aren't just yammering on their phones, but they occasionally do that, too" car
-
I recall it being pretty strict in there on the NY to DC corridor back in 2013-2015. Is anything still sacred?
-
I feel like it's gotten a lot less strict over the years. Phones go off with nary a hissing from other passengers.

An Amtrak conductor friend of mine told me about the time she had to zip-tie a passenger who tried to stab another rider with a pen for typing too loudly in the quiet car. I bet it was quiet in the car after that happened.
-
I may or may not have been that passenger (though the sin that makes me near crazy is the little bell "ding!" that smart phones do when people get a message... it's feels like it goes straight to my brain stem)

The only way to keep a quiet car quiet is to become an enforcer. Depending on my mood, I’ve played this role.
-
I just stew and curse under my breath it is ineffective

I get infuriated with talkers on quiet cars. There are at least six or seven other cars they can sit in....

Her father is a retired Amtrak conductor. He told her that the most important thing she should carry were zip-ties. The only reason why she had them on her was because he gave them to her on her first day. She assumed her father was joking but surprise!
