Fascinating talk by Eltis. Another problem he highlighted is the rise of anti-quantitative bias in humanities-based fields. Who is going to USE the data on http://slavevoyages.org ? I think that’s right, though maybe the pendulum is swinging back.
Eltis showed this video - a 3D reconstruction of a slave ship. https://www.slavevoyages.org/voyage/ship He also talked about why there is no humans in the animation. He said DH simply cannot justly represent that level of human suffering.

Yeah. He pointed out that you see similar things with DH, including 3D, representations of Nazi death camps. It's about spaces and things. But no people are in the representations.
