Some of these things just feel punitive. Why "last to board"? I mean, jeez

must be nice to think $50-$100+ per flight is "barely any money"

To put it another way, I don't think me saving ~5-10% is worth what they cut in terms of expectations.

went and checked and it appears that United's current rate is $60 between "basic economy" and "economy". On the routes I take normally this anywhere from 15% to 25% of the 'full' ticket price.

but like, you *need* luggage. So you have to add that on. That's $25 each way, $50 total. With some airlines or international flights it's $50 each way. At that point, it really is a shitty deal, with very little price difference.

Mexico City was great — hugely enjoyable. (And we flew Jetblue, so it was a non-abusive flight.)

there's a lot of people with federal funding etc who are forced to buy the cheapest flights. this sucks for them. f

They're trying to send you a strong signal for upgrades, since that's where they make, allegedly, *all* of their money (competition has put downward pressure on prices and these cheap flights have very small profit margins). It sucks.

I do Newark to DFW round trip twice a year. Always flew @united cause it's been cheapest. With this new basic economy, next week I'm flying @AmericanAir due to a need for carryon. And it's almost the same price. I won't fly United again with these ridiculous inconveniences.

the basic economy flights i booked a few weeks ago were $150 cheaper than a regular flight. the only drawback is no carry-on bag, but i think i'll survive.
