Gregorian Chant
Sappy generic music with names like “Quiet Pianos for Becky’s”
The Strokes
If you like Glass for writing, check out Simone Dinnerstein & A Far Cry, "Piano Concertos by Bach and Glass." The Bach is fine, but the Glass is really transcendent. It makes everything feel majestic, like you're in an Errol Morris movie.

(I like to listen to the Glass concertos when my plane is descending. It's calming, and it makes me think, "oh, if this plane crashes, it'll totally be the poetic and sad end of the movie that I'm in," which is strangely comforting.)
