I’m sometimes surprised by how students assume I will be interested in their politics. Like, “Hold on, you *hate* neoliberalism? I’m having a hard time here, because the last five or six people who walked into my office were completely in love with it.”
My line with students is always: you cannot fathom how little I care about your political views. I do, however, care *whether* you vote. Because if you voted, you'd be a demographic that the powers-that-be would cater to, and think about, and plan for. Right now, you aren't.

I've never had students go performative with their politics, likely because my classroom is pure nihilism (P&T committee: "it says here your classroom is 'pure nihilism'")
