I've been reading over a report of several false nuclear alarms that took place in the 1950s-1960s... two have causes that are somewhat typical, e.g., "we didn't know those planes were ours" or "a wire got crossed." But this one... what an idiot!pic.twitter.com/oECW03yELE

"Acting" director. I assume he didn't *act* in that role much longer?

Fewer people than care about not dying in nuclear war, it turns out. Even in Chicago

Libbe HaLevy recounts experiencing that as a 9 year old in the last 11 min of her Hawaii Dress Rehersal for Nuclear Hell episode. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nuclear-hotseat-hosted-by-libbe-halevy/id458213762?mt=2&i=1000400032209 … Later she ended up visiting friends a mile away when the 3 Mile Island disaster occurred. Frightening ride she’s had.

A bit harsh ... The White Sox winning the league IS a legitimate disaster, is it not? 😆😎

I was eight years old then, living on the south side, and didn't mind the ruckus. We listened to the Cleveland game, and everything got pretty silly after the Pale Hose won. Cars honking, people yelling & acting foolish. The sirens didn't seem out of place.
