Curious to hear what folks in the #HistSTM community think about this new @aeonmag essay re: truth, Truth, science, and Science.

(kudos to @samhaselby for bringing it to my eyes)

I did find the author's eagerness to spar with Kuhn, instead of some more appropriate partners, odd.

(And Latour's move of the claim from "here is how Nature works" to "here is the outcome of specific scientific research" actually is one way to re-center what we mean by a 'scientific fact' in a way that squares well with history and our live experiences.)

(Last comment: there's also some irony in dismissing an idea as "radical" and "alienating" in a piece that celebrates the boldness of science over centuries of dogma etc. etc. "This idea is radical and alienating" is not an engagement with its truth status.)

Hi Alex thanks for engaging with my piece. Clarification: I am not dismissing anyone (some of these including Kuhn and Goodman have been very influential for me and I regularly teach them). I was only reporting where my PoS community has moved to. That is the community I know.
