Strike first. Strike hard. Decapitate and counterforce. Expect to lose a couple tens of millions. These are the things I have learned from playing DEFCON.
I found DEFCON, a game of magical ballistic defense, to be winnable by holding on, striking from submarines and bombers - during enemy attack. bomb him, counterforce if you like, but strike second, when his silos launch nukes instead of interceptors.
I have wondered if there was a "more like real life" mod that got rid of the magical defense (or separated it from the silos and made it really unreliable), and only let you deploy arsenals based on actual nations you inhabit. Probably wouldn't be fun.
especially for South America, I guess :)
Oh no, beat me once in global thermonuclear war shame on you; play me again I will prevail. I'll have a cool beefed up car with no muffler and leather / chrome attire too. Mel Gibson will be jealous.
