IIRC, Dyson's Weapons_and_Hope asserted the total saved would have been millions, at least for the opening minutes of WW3.
I've found in my preliminary playing around with these kinds of things that the scenario/city really matters. Because all of these things are about reducing casualties on the "fringes." For some city/bomb pairings, it does less than you'd think. For others it does more.
