My bad! Curious, did emigrants of the Austro-Hungarian Empire commonly state their specific region of origin when asked nationality? I have some papers from my Slovene ancestors that all refer to either the empire or the Kingdom of SCS, not "Slovenia"
He listed it as a bunch of different things depending on the form. To be fair the specific town he was from changed nationalities several times over the course of the 20th century (Austria-Hungary, Poland, today it is Ukraine).
Yeah, it was a rough neighborhood. My family still has a few business licenses, all from different authorities, for my great-grandfathers brush business outside Ljubljania from the early 20thc
