These are really different from History of Science questions. Among my favorites I can remember being asked was: "When exactly was the word 'gene' coined, and what is the significance of that?" I got it right, but only because by sheer luck I had read about it the night before.

The luck was that I happened to read the relevant book (out of the 300 I was tested on) the night before. If I had read it 4 months before I probably would have forgotten that kind of detail (I have no inherent head for dates and arguably am worse than most at remember numbers).
