I particularly like the blurriness of the last one... adds to the "reality effect" of it. First three are all of Castle Romeo (11 Mt), last is Castle Yankee (13.5 Mt).

One more of Castle Romeo. Just a ghastly, otherworldly thing...pic.twitter.com/5H5W016oWH

By popular demand... some non-standard Castle Bravo pics. (All of these photos were sent to me by Los Alamos some time back.)pic.twitter.com/slVZHKmbP4

Why are they all red? That's the true color or did they use a particular film for some reason?
-
Many of the Pacific shots were very red. I am not sure exactly why — it may just be the exact moment the photo was taken (the colors change a lot in the first few seconds). But it is very pronounced in some of them, even sub-megaton ones (like these attached).pic.twitter.com/cIGQuqIIiX

(And maybe atmospheric conditions has to do with it, too. I don't know.)

These tests did a lot of harm to fragile ecosystems. Some pacific islanders are still living with the terrible aftermath.

Agree 100%. At the end of the
@Radiolab podcast "Nukes," if you listen all the way to the end, past the credits, one can hear the late Tony De Brum describe witnessing the Bravo test as a child:https://www.wnycstudios.org/story/nukes

My daughter did a project on nuclear fusion for a physics class, and I showed her the Castle Bravo explosion on YouTube. I can imagine people thinking: if we could harness all this energy, electricity would be too cheap to meter.
