There was an E-2 Hawkeye flying over campus the other day. I can only imagine they were preparing for a Russian SSGN attack. I've come to mostly expect these things
The most unnerving thing about "big news in NYC" are the number of helicopters (news? NYPD?) that end up taking up stationary positions over the city and the Hudson. They are very noisy, adding a droning, high-anxiety, Nolanesque soundtrack to the morning. I count 4 right now.pic.twitter.com/bozx5RrwvK

There's some base north of us that occasionally sends military planes down the Hudson. About one every couple months I see a group of Ospreys going south.

HMS Queen Elizabeth heading out to sea?

The HMS QE is apparently anchored south of Manhattan (near the Statue of Liberty); the helicopters are all in the upper part of midtown. My guess is they have to do with the Time Warner building at Columbus Circle.

I always noticed the same thing in Chicago. You can tell the news helicopters by the big globe on the nose that houses the camera.

I don't have my camera with the zoom lens with me today, so I can't really see them very well.
