I recently re-read the late Iain M. Banks's "The Player of Games." When I read it 6 years ago, I thought, "oh, I see, the Empire of Azad is supposed to represent the worst aspects of the human race, got it," but this time it was, "oh, I see, we live in Azad now, got it."
