A word of love for the Amtrak conductor on quiet car yesterday who had clearly had it with his fellow man. He yelled for a good 5 minutes, defining "quiet car," defining "conversation," defining "cell phones off," ending with "I shouldn't have to tell adults what 'quiet' means."
The quiet car is the last bastion of civilized norms in the modern age, and if we have learned anything from the last few years, it is that norms need constant vigilance. In my experience the quiet car rules are only truly abided on about half of my trips!
Exactly. I've heard people telling other people it's the quiet car, I've told people it's the quiet car, I've heard conductors announce it's the quiet car, but I've never heard a full-blown rant as eloquent and passionate as this. This conductor was a very Pericles.
