In the book, the boyfriend is a professor of history at NYU, and spends almost zero time writing, in an archive, or discussing history at all. I still love the series but wish the academia part was a little more realistic! They dropped the historian thing for the film.

Also, in the book, it was summer vacation when they go, which makes more sense and lets them stay in Asia longer.

I’ve ran IT at school and college level in state schools...an act of Congress can’t get some faculty to check anything during spring, summer or Christmas breaks. But yea the spring break trip is kind of short for the film, book is summer break
