@wellerstein "It discussed the various methods of assembly. The obvious... thing to do is make this two parts of a gun and assemble it and maybe this could be expanded by making a cartwheel and firing several in except this would lead to problems with simultaneity and so on"

https://www.manhattanprojectvoices.org/oral-histories/raemer-schreibers-interview-1965 …. Never heard about this before. A chain of HEU gun-bombs laid out like a bike wheel?

This is kind of the proto-implosion idea in the Los Alamos primer. It doesn't assemble fast enough for Pu and the simultaneity problems are very tricky. Alternatively, it is reminiscent of a fantastical wheel cannon from Valturius (1472)pic.twitter.com/GLfoBzuGOk

So it wasn't blowing the rings of U onto cylinders of U simultaneously?

Looking at the interview, his memory of the Primer isn't very fresh.. so who knows what he's thinking about, really. Sounds like either the proto-implosion or various other ideas like the double-gun which were also discussed at Los Alamos during this time.
