Cormac, you're I believe misunderstanding "political" again. But at a basic level, with early QM: why was it that early QM was overrepresented by Jewish practitioners? Because (as I am sure you know) they were excluded from experimental work for racial reasons.
These kinds of "contextual" things are political to the core. (So are things like the fact that Rutherford's laboratory didn't contain any women.) This is the "politics as context" that I'm talking about. The world that the science is done in shapes who does it and what they do.
