Hey military/naval/OSINT Twitter — what kind of Russian sub is this in dry-dock near Petropavlovsk? Borei? I am untrained at identifying things from the air. Google Earth's ruler says 512 feet / 156 m long. @IntrepidMuseum, and was showing them the naval base at Petropavlovsk because we know it was the target of the USS Growler's Regulus missiles when it was on deterrent patrol.Show this thread -
I knew it was still an active naval yard but I was surprised to find a modern SSBN clearly under construction there when I was taking screenshots. "Google Maps would have saved the US intelligence services a LOT of hassle if it'd existed in the 1950s!" was my fairly-obvious quip.

Borei, b/c of propellor shroud and dimensions. Deltas have the huge ugly hump on their backs, and attack subs are generally wider compared to their length.

the pump jet prop has me agreeing with you on the Borei. Maybe Project 0955? I cant see the towed array on the rear hydroplane (image quality maybe?) but it may be Pr. 0955A given how wide the pump jet is (doesn't taper into a point like the diagram shows.)pic.twitter.com/BfWKZqvSou
