    Some personal news: I was born in China. I grew up in my family’s restaurant in rural West Virginia. And here I am, covering The White House. Often, I’ve felt like an “Other”— an all too familiar feeling for many proud Americans. I hope you’ll see some of your story in mine.

    The intrepid ⁦⁩ is writing OTHER, a memoir about conflicting identity from growing up in West Virginia to asking tough questions in the White House press room.

    A security guard tailed me on my walk home tonight. He demanded if I lived there because “you look suspicious.” I showed my keys & buzzed myself into my building. He left, no apology. This is the reality of black girls: One day you’re called an icon, the next day, a threat.

    Wow, a fantastic piece by . We live in a contradictory society that can celebrate a black girl poet & also pepper spray a 9 yr old. Yes see me, but also see all other black girls who've been made invisible. I can not, will not, rise alone.

    As we enter hour six with no movement on vote-a-rama on the COVID bill, a reminder: this is the easiest thing a united Democratic Washington will attempt. They only need 50, and the bill is super popular (it contains free money!) Every other Dem priority will be a heavier lift
