I have some frankly brilliant ideas for the next Silicon Valley trend: > Yoga pants, but now dudes are wearing them > Genetically modified axolotls as status symbols > Parties where people just sit and make intense, silent eye contact with each other until a champion is chosen

I’m sorry, but Lord Xenu and volcanic alien executions make more sense than basically any wine description

How exactly does one find themselves bullshitting about wine *professionally*?

It would be cool if companies could figure out how to link equity vesting to Stuff Done, but then they really would have to stop hobbling their talent and LOL good luck with that

Anyway, the same bureaucracies that don't know how to value engineering output probably aren't really utilizing it/protecting it from bottlenecks...? Exceptional engineers are disproportionately incentivized to produce actual value. Go get it fam, build that team! 👍

Harvard is a credential gate. The whole point is that your kid doesn't get in — every impressive kid who doesn't get in boosts the signal. The Ivies are there to pick winners, not create them.

It’d be super cool to get life stats post-death, but the one I never ever wanna see is “total time spent looking for items I set down <30 seconds prior”

IMO, it’s totally human & basically fine to feel upset that your nice thing may become less nice. But the next mental step should involve thinking & caring about other people, people integral to an ecosystem that’s caused your property values to skyrocket. Like, come onnnn

I’m still pretty 🤯 re: standard Bay NIMBY arguments Heavens no, I would not want The Only Place I May Rest My Weary Head to cast shadows on your sidewalk or block a corner of your bay views or destroy the very nature of your neighborhood

Twitter descending on the *wrong* Red Hen & not pausing for breath before demanding they publicly denounce/pledge support to a completely unaffiliated restaurant three hours away is my everything

When you're an irredeemable slob (me), the rush-clean reveals that you own 10 pairs of scissors but not a single serviceable knife, have been drinking wine solely out of mugs for 5 years, and must rely on distant memories of mid-tier hotel rooms to reconstruct a plausible bedroom

You sit down in a room, already enrolled, and read legalese that public high schools didn’t prepare you to understand, and sign papers that lock you into 25 years of debt. And you’ve been indoctrinated for 18 years that this is the only way.

I mute pretty liberally, and the #1 way to make the list is to make it clear that you either didn’t read the tweet you’re replying to carefully, or that you privileged your pet point so strongly that you willfully misinterpreted others’ thoughts in order to make your own relevant

So take your three free years post-tutoring (the ones you would’ve spent in throwaway classes) and hang out on a college campus for free.

True of everything from your education to your job to your friends' relationships to the political & social gears that structure your reality. IMO, all you can do is (1) have causal models (2) notice when they're failing in really weird ways (3) get super curious about that

Average tuition for a year at a US private college is $35k. Nobody should pay that. Offering $140k for 1 year of regular time with any one of the best minds in your field of choice would be a strictly better use of your resources (and probably theirs, if they'd otherwise teach).

Shocking how few students ever ran the numbers on their student debt long-run vs. expected income considering even a pretty limited spread of likely career trajectories. I don't think most of us ever had a single adult suggest doing this as we made these decisions *in our teens*
