Yes — I was horribly unhappy in college. Against all advice, I dropped out to take a very low-paying (but cool) research job in NYC. When that didn't pan out, I wandered around the country freelancing until I found a place I love. Very glad I didn't leave myself to wither!
My wandering period involved starting a small company (now defunct), working a bunch of odd jobs, doing a coding bootcamp, taking time off when I could afford to for travel & personal projects, meeting tons of cool people, and generally saying “yes” to weird opportunities
