Intellectually, we know that it's possible to have wide, connective knowledge. But I think we may get the wrong idea from being educated by individuals allocated to one subject or field in disjointed classes. Many of the greatest thinkers field-switch, sometimes often!

The whole idea of a "field/subject" is a bit of a misconception. The ideas are grouped like that for historic reasons not because of anything intrinsic to them.

The main wrong idea that school teaches in this regard is that people should focus on the whole "field" rather than specific problems and questions they have. If one is interested in e.g. how drugs work there is no reason to start with a general biology textbook.
