Can voluntarily reader-funded blogs and web serials replace traditional publishing? Maybe with more flexible funding and discovery platforms?
Do you think the incentives of NPR/BBC/etc. are better than the incentives of direct consumers? Or that their incentives are worse, but they have access to better filters?

I don't know if better/worse is the right frame. The outcome of an incentivized behavior depends a lot on the person, but they are better curated, which implies better filters. Building & maintaining a good filter set is hard.

What difference in outcomes from incentives and outcomes from curation are you pointing at, here? I agree that "better" is fraught, but insofar as it's fraught for incentives it's also fraught for curation
