Can voluntarily reader-funded blogs and web serials replace traditional publishing? Maybe with more flexible funding and discovery platforms?
If you do, you pay those experts, and you pay for the content they recommend you consume because you're already paying for the value you assume they've provided in recommending it. If you don't, then no, you don't want them over the crowd... right?

Sometimes you don't pay the expert directly. Sometimes they're funded indirectly, kinda like NPR or the BBC. The relative lack of attention seeking from endowed producers can be refreshing.

Do you think the incentives of NPR/BBC/etc. are better than the incentives of direct consumers? Or that their incentives are worse, but they have access to better filters?
