Maybe to notice true pits of despair (a la Inadequate Equilibria) you have to see beyond faux pits of despair, like no AC.

I think taking this idea seriously is an unadulterated good. We have a tendency to selfishness that needs constant prodding if we are to exercise some real altruism. Remember that reminder to send someone an encouraging message, like right now before busyness buried it? Good idea

This comes across as horribly insensitive and tone deaf, especially considering his background (white male, upper middle class). Somewhat ironic too, given he's a Jew, which I'm assuming gave him some exposure to pogroms and other forms of oppression his ancestors faced.
