Blasé, maybe, but yes. A few days ago, I wrote a short "thinking of you" email to someone I hadn't spoken to in 3+ months. It was wonderful. Going to write at least another three today. Will follow you if you reply with a commitment to write just one.

Addendum: - Internet friends count, if you were at any point quite close - Length doesn’t matter, but the content should be heartfelt - Phone calls, texts, carrier pigeons, etc. all count, but don’t let the format get in the way of the mission

Nah. Anything that expresses your genuine caring for/appreciation of them works. Try to not hold back too much, though. Really summon up how it feels to have this person in your life before you write.

great idea! i decided to send a note to someone i haven't spoken with in years. we had many political disagreements, but he never made it personal and we seemed to always have a mutual respect. in today's political climate, i need more people like him in my life.
