They gain the same if they lie and if they don't (the token money for participation in the experiment). Sure, people who value their time more than the money won't participate, but that applies to all studies.

Any time you reveal anything highly sensitive to anyone, even someone sworn to confidentiality, even under circumstances that seem airtight *to you*, you are incurring a substantial cost. Most people don't really think of things this way, but a lot of smart people do.
