IMO: cultural appropriation as typically defined is really just cultural exchange, which is broadly a good thing. When people argue against it *well*, they use examples that are cultural exchange PLUS something bad — disrespect, cruel intent, actual harm (intended or not), etc.
I actually think he's making some good points, at least insofar as they're empirically testable and *should* be tested. Do white restaurateurs serving burritos, etc. crowd out minority restaurateurs? Or do they generate interest in that cuisine that helps everyone? Or both?

This has become a big signaling issue, but there are interesting social mechanisms being proposed. I think we should all just try to be as curious, understanding, and willing to dive into the facts as we can possibly be. Eyes on the prize: cultural exchange that's not zero sum.
