Political differences are complicated by confusing outcome prefs for policy prefs; people seem to get stuck on a "how much of the thing is the right amount of the thing?" question that's probably best left to experts. A better Q is "...the right amount of the thing *for what*?"

This is true, but I also think outcome prefs can be uniting in unexpected ways. Like, pro-choice and pro-life advocates would probably both say the outcome they want is less abortions. Pro-gun reg & pro-gun rights both want less mass shootings.
