Not central, but one that comes to mind is all the prenatal/maternity advice whereby a thousand common/default behaviors will with great likelihood cause severe damage to the baby. The rub is that you'd expect a lot more messed up babies if a fraction of these claims were true

Yep (but I wouldn't pick on any one dietary theory in particular & I'm confused here, too). Nutrition seems relevant to many outcomes, but the evidence simultaneously suggests that humans are amazingly adaptable wrt diet & there are SO many more environmental factors to consider
