I'm probably not the first programmer to like programming, but think the job is fundamentally unsociable, and not too healthy for social creatures. This reason may also partly explain why very smart demographics with more options choose other careers.

I think it depends on your work environment, and what kind of programming projects you work on. My current project is large, distributed, and requires a large degree of collaboration. We all work in the same room, and it feels very social.
