When criticism is fully a choice, the negative aspect evaporates. Criticism that’s optional – ie in a fully noncoercive context of growth and exploration – can be just as fun and brainstormy as positive ideas (which themselves can be negative if there’s pressure to adopt them!).

The best criticisms contain ways to improve – a place to jump to. A criticism may be no use to you if there’s no clear better idea. (Or it may be useful to have in the back of one’s mind as “thinking about that criticism may be a lead to improve on this idea in the future”.)
