FWIW, I only endorse doing this for mistakes that are (a) central to the main point of the tweet, and (b) divisive/accusatory/inflammatory.

For example I tweeted about Dumas being paid by the line, and in passing referred to Dickens being paid by the word, which turned out to not be quite true. But I left the original tweet up bc (a) the main point was about Dumas, and (b) the Dickens mistake wasn't inflammatory.

Additionally, when we see other people perform those three steps we need to signal boost that resulting tweet. A good example is when

IRL one doesn't get to just delete their mistakes. If your errors get propagated more than your truths (or corrections), then: 1. you have bad followers 2. you are more useful when you are wrong. Quite likely both. So tweet responsibly. Reality is stranger than fiction.
