IMO, the most concerning forms of cultural interference (& organically arising cultural phenomena) kill good-faith conversation. And some of the most important work in social organizing & tech may — even somewhat subtly — fight back to make space for these conversations.

I was just in a country where I didn't speak the language, they didn't speak English and yet we cooperated without violence. I'd say invention of money is at least as big enabler of collaboration with strangers as communication and definitely bigger than violence.

Definitely don't want to dismiss the gravity of money as social tech, but there's a bunch of front-loaded communication that makes common transactions follow a simple script globally, & impromptu non-verbal conversations based on gesture schelling points are still super useful

It's the cherry picking that bugs me. Most of them are comfortable singling out the loudest, most immature actions on left as 'evidence' of a deep problem. Yet I'm fairly certain they see why doing the same with the worst atheists isn't a fair way to characterize the movement.
