This actually makes sense? Like if I'm *mostly* pretty selfish, and value the pleasure I get from eating meat more than the harm it causes (because the one's happening to me) but value the pleasure others get from eating meat way less than the harm it causes /1
(because both are happening to others) then given the leverage to do so, I'll prefer to ban slaughterhouses (I give up meat but millions of animals get saved) but given only control over my own actions, I'll continue eating meat.
This is an excellent steelman (and a position that I think could be leveraged in interesting ways if it were widespread), but I don't actually think most of these people are asking for state-imposed vegetarianism
