Basically, the coolest woman ever is a below-the-fold profile in Marie Claire. What fundamental failure of humanity is this?
Part of it is probably that Shotwell is too busy running a $20+bn rocket company to care about self-promotion. But *maybe* a contributing factor is that there are "better" stories to tell — for example, that her boss did not get laid at a party 6 months ago. Let us reflect.
Media coverage of systematic sexism is not why women don't get as much press coverage, it's part of solving the problem. Trying to pit these against each other is ridiculous.

Thank you for sharing. I didn't know but I do now. The cashier at the grocery store is going to think it strange when I purchase a Marie Claire magazine to read her story
Don't forget her "boss" is the HUMAN being that will get us to mars (if he's actually human) and should be respected as such

Magazines feature the stories that effectively sell their magazine. Glad the audience for Marie Claire is tolerating a "woman in tech" article already. Long way to go until they expect, or even demand it.
The fundamental failure is that Marie Claire is a fashion/beauty rag. Shotwell has been covered in newspapers, business magazines; the places we should be looking for women. She's even done a TED talk. I'm certainly not going to look in GQ for strong men to look up to.
