Part of it is probably that Shotwell is too busy running a $20+bn rocket company to care about self-promotion. But *maybe* a contributing factor is that there are "better" stories to tell — for example, that her boss did not get laid at a party 6 months ago. Let us reflect.

It's nothing to do with gender. It's a general failure of society to reward and celebrate intellect. It seems vanity is much more in demand / easier to sell.

Look at the magazine in question. Its like you would be shocked to find a Kardashian on the cover of US Weekly over a Noble Prize winner. Every magazine has its target audience and intellect and an interest in intellectual pursuits are sadly not a characteristic of most of them.
