(By the way, the implication in Vance’s Elon Musk biography is that Shotwell lost interest in the auto industry because they wouldn’t let her keep playing with all the fun tools and liquid nitrogen.)

Part of it is probably that Shotwell is too busy running a $20+bn rocket company to care about self-promotion. But *maybe* a contributing factor is that there are "better" stories to tell — for example, that her boss did not get laid at a party 6 months ago. Let us reflect.

I agree. Then they wonder why don't they have enough women in STEM. Because failed actresses and T.V. hosts are self promoting themselves as female heroes. This lady made it with no affirmative action. She is there cuz she is good at what she does.
