Insofar as I understand how any of this works, I doubt many unenviable professionals took a hit. I also don't see any reason to think the discourse on anything progressed due to E! sound bites. I'm genuinely curious about whether I'm missing something & this actually matters

(Which isn't to say that this isn't an interesting/unusual take! I'm just flummoxed by the perceived significance of things celebrities say or don't say as they're hanging around before an awards show. I wonder if I'm blinded by my outgroup perspective.)

I take this stuff as having symbolic importance, not (direct) consequentialist importance. But it still matters. The kind of behavior we allow/applaud/condemn in these high-profile contexts is how we negotiate what consensus societal values should be.
