I think most people don't have that concept internalized, and normalizing evil is all it takes for more people to participate in it (see: spiral of silence).
I think the crux of it is that I don’t see where you’re getting “why the fuss about his views on Hitler?” from unless you think that necessarily follows from “he’s overall pretty boring.”

The framing of his horrible views often comes before a "but" in the article, rhetorically justifying/erasing the objectionable parts and papering them over. What's the idiom Jon Snow uses about the word "but"?
