To me, the saddest thing here is that the miasma of stable mediocrity rolling off of every inch of this guy is apparently something that liberals think will sell nazism

Sell != normalize, I think. The objection I've seen is that the NYTimes piece suggests there's nothing wrong with holding horrific views if you're a guy a mother would love and make decent pasta.

Also that it's a puff piece, whereas profiles of people of color (targets of white nationalists!) receive the opposite treatment.

My model is that we generally get really upset when profiles of PoC and other activists turn into puff pieces, because it downplays their significance
