Fair enough, but I think our standard should be: we're giving powerful narcotics to people, the positive effects should be grossly obvious.
Consider that this review looked at outcomes like falls/fractures, but not suicide -- those in chronic pain are at substantially higher risk

I suspect suicide would be really hard to analyze as the choice of classification for overdoses would dominate results.
