Opioids were definitely overprescribed, the consequences are dire, AND there are millions of people who probably SHOULD be on them long-term

I'm pretty skeptical of that, esp. considering "no placebo-controlled trials met inclusion criteria." All placebo studies were short-term.

Fair enough, but I think our standard should be: we're giving powerful narcotics to people, the positive effects should be grossly obvious.

Can't agree with that when effective alternatives are hard to come by & the no-treatment condition is horrific.
