If your system "mistakenly flagged" Bret as an imposter, why was he not contacted and asked to verify his identity before a supposedly irreversible review process took place behind closed doors? Is your team that incompetent, or are you just not being truthful?https://twitter.com/Liz_Shepherd/status/1319451084859953154 …

Ah, apparently she has quite a lot of experience telling the masses just how stupid their betters think they are.

Perfect situation for Occam's razor. Its not some conspiracy, just overwhelmed, under-enabled low-level staff with poorly engineered flagging software.https://twitter.com/CathyYoung63/status/1319724206326767617 …

What explanation could there possibly be for not having an ID verification process for accounts flagged as potentially run by an imposter? All of online finance requires this. I personally bootstrapped a product with this functionality >5 years ago while living on ramen.

Large companies are often much more incompetent than one-person boot-strapped companies in so many ways.

If Facebook is actually run this incompetently, I genuinely hope the next board meeting involves a serious discussion about restructuring.

I highly doubt the Weinstein ban is getting escalated to Zuck. For every unjust ban that catches your radar there are probably 100s more that some other corner of Twitter is outraged over. Some ppl really do deserve bans, and its not easy to deal with the volume.

Well hes got a large cult following. I still believe Liz in that this was just a mistake. I agree with you that it should turn heads but doubt something like it wont happen again. Its just too hard of a problem and necessarily deals with low-level managers making judgement calls.

Determining the precise line between hate speech and "mean" speech is a hard problem. Filtering for illegal content while maintaining user privacy is a hard problem. ID verification is a solved problem, many times over.
