Wasn't it actually during a break?

No, it was during/just after a 10-minute "breakout session," where participants were pushed to smaller groups before returning to the main group. Toobin was a moderator for the call and would've been expected to stay on, which is why he attempted to cut his feed but didn't leave

He should definitely be fired and also I have been in plenty of meetings where someone whipping it would be a marked improvement in the quality of the discourse

Anti-social behavior during a work call is a sign of a very disturbed person.

I think whether or not he gets fired is not my business. That's up to his bosses. I'm just here as an uninvolved stranger speaking out against the pile-on by other uninvolved strangers.

Welp, I guess for my part I do actually think surprise dick on work calls is worth discussing, especially if it indicates we're somehow not able to agree on some basic ground rules for meetings in the era of COVID WFH

"on the clock" is a tricky concept for salaried workers who work at home. It's entirely reasonable for them to fire him, but I personally would be happy if they showed some forgiveness in this case.
-
Remote workers usually get some flexibility in when/how they work and when they take breaks, but when we're talking about a scheduled work meeting, it's not that tricky
