It's fair to argue that treatment/reintegration/restoration should be prioritized, but if you're asking victims about *their* priorities, some of them are going to want more prosecution and more jail time for violent crimes. It's critical that they be able to voice that, too.

This was the approach a local magistrate took with the estranged ex husband of a local woman near me. She sought protections and a protective order which were denied. And her ex promptly killed her soon after.

I'm so sorry to hear that. When I went in to give my interview and provide evidence, I asked the cop how seriously I should take these threats and whether I was in immediate danger. His answer was essentially that you just can't know, which is why they must take them seriously.

Remember that they'll get out of jail eventually. I've had friends that had severe problems because the system didn't even give them a heads up when they released a stalker after only a few weeks (into a "one year term"). Hey, it makes you keep up on martial arts, so bonus? ;)
